This project was a major renovation and restoration
of various sections of the original 10–1/2 Beacon
Street Building as well as areas owned by The Boston
Athenaeum within the Congregational House at 14
Beacon Street.
Included in the renovation were all new windows,
exterior stone and brick restoration as needed, all new
climate controlled mechanical systems, plumbing,
electrical, security and fire alarm systems.
New floors were added in both buildings to increase
the collection and book capacity.
The architectural renovations to the building’s interior
included a new entry lobby, exhibit areas, new
elevator, conservation laboratory, seminar rooms,
reading rooms and cataloging areas.
A temporary “Mini Athenaeum” was constructed on the
ground floor of 14 Beacon Street. Staffed by Athenaeum
employees this “Mini Athenaeum” allowed members
continued access to the library’s book collection that were
stored in an off site storage facility. |
