Hamilton College recognized a growing need to update and consolidate their science facilities. Currently situated in two buildings, the College brings together the Archeology, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, and Psychology departments to facilitate interaction between the sciences, students and faculty.
The project has been constructed in two phases that require about a 70% increase in net square footage. The first phase added 100,000 new square feet to the existing main science building; the second is renovating the existing facility. By carefully planning temporary relocations and phasing the final turnover to the College, the close coordination between Barr & Barr, the owner, and architect was able to minimize any disruption during the academic year.
Hamilton College , is committed to environmentally sensitive and sustainable construction practices. On-site staff recognized this commitment and became LEED Certified. Barr & Barr and Einhorn Yaffee Prescott are working with the College to identify opportunities to deliver a “green” building
